2010 Spring Apprentice Program (AP)

about the Fall 2010 program.
The AP will entail a six month commitment from
all participants.
We will meet once a week for a full day
class (including lunch made with herbs from the garden, as we study
Food as Medicine, Medicine as Food).
Note:The
beginning class will be open for individual students who
are not participating in the entire AP.
This will be a comprehensive study of herbalism starting from the
beginning including:

Garden Walks.
Learn to identify, grow and use many herbs that are native to
our Central Texas environment, herbs that have naturalized, or grow
well here.
·
The
Art of Making Herbal Preparations.
Learn how to properly prepare medicinal infusions and decoctions,
herbal oils, salves, tinctures, compresses, poultices, syrups,
herbal candy and more.
·
Learn how to determine high quality herbs and where to purchase
them.
·
We
will learn a Materia Medica of approximately 200 herbs and study
these according to their corresponding bodily system.
These systems include:
the Nervous System, the Digestive System, Herbs for the
Liver, the Immune System, the Respiratory System, the Reproductive
System, the Cardio vascular system, the Urinary System

Herbal First Aid
·
We
will learn how to harvest, dry and store herbs.

Herbs for Children
·
A
review of complementary disciplines including Aromatherapy,
Homeopathy, Chinese Medicine, Aryuvedic
Medicine, Flower Essences

Herb
for Pets
·
The
lovely practice of Natural Cosmetics – learn how to create products
perfect for any skin type.
·
An
in-depth study on Herbs for Women’s Health; adolescence,
child-bearing years, pregnancy, peri-menopause, menopause
·
Herbs for Men
·
Seasonal Health Issues; winter herbs. Herbs for allergies.
·
How
to Create a Medicinal Herb Garden-including and ,Organic Gardening
program: planting seeds, transplants, vegetables, herbs, flowers,
fertilizing et al
·
Preventive Health Care- Learn to create a Personal Health Program
·
Legal issues concerning Herbalism
·
Resources: for supplies, seed catalogues, local nurseries, books,
organizations, etc.
